ABOUT ME 🙂
Hi! My name is Rehaan. I am a Junior at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. My passion for fitness started early in elementary school when I joined martial arts classes. In middle school, I earned my Black Belt and pursued track and field. Another passion of mine is music. I play the saxophone an a singer/songwriter having released a single and collaborations with other artists. I wanted to do something that would bring my Fitness + Music worlds together. So I created RepsByBeat. I get to compose music and tie a workout to it. I found that when I keep up with the beat, I push myself and have fun. I hope you enjoy RepsByBeat and share it with your friends and family. I created RepsByBeat four years ago and it has been up and running since, until it got hacked and I was forced to take it down. Now during these gripping times of the Coronavirus pandemic and the whole world is in quarantine, I thought it would be necessary to resurrect the app. Though the videos of me are of my younger and skinnier self, I can say young Rehaan is still getting the job done especially since the app is targeting younger teenagers. There is room for improvement in the app like the music can be updated and the workouts can be more diverse, but the need for exercise is vital during these times. Expect to see changes in the near future and feel free to contact me with any suggestions you might have.
COMPOSING THE MUSIC
I first map out the exercise routines in sequence and punctuate them with appropriate rest times. Once I have the final session designed I then select a tempo I want to work with – usually either 64, 96 or 128 beats per minute. I then use GarageBand to compose the music piece that is exactly timed to the exercise routine. There are multiple layers of music, beats, effects and sound modulations that are thoughtfully stitched together to make it perfect for that specific workout session. I use loud base drums for the primary dominant beat during the action sequence and lilting softer tunes through the rest period. There are lovely crescendos at all transitions to make it easy to follow. Invigorating music created specifically for each workout is my special offering to my users. Please use RepsByBeat and let me know what you think. Thank you!
MAKING THE VIDEOS
Videos were shot indoors with basic cameras and iPhones from 3 views. We kept the set simple without much distractions. The idea was to personally demonstrate every workout session non-stop to make sure I understand the intensity level and experience first hand. The raw footage was then shipped to a team of experts who completed the graphics, animation and editing.
